Ken tra caso, destino e forse fato?

Qualche giorno fa ci siamo imbattuti nella storia di Ken, un soldato inglese che, durante lo sbarco
alleato, aveva conosciuto il suo primo amore, la sua Rosa, ai piedi dei maestosi Templi di Paestum.
Ken non ha potuto rivedere Rosa, che nel frattempo è passata a miglior vita.


Nel suo recente soggiorno a Paestum, grazie ad una serie di circostanze e di tasselli che si univano man mano che ritornava sui suoi passi, è comparso il ricordo di un bambino.

Così, grazie all'opera e all'aiuto di alcune persone del posto, sensibili ed ormai affezionate al romantico anziano, i ricordi si sono trasformati in un percorso, iniziato nei pressi dei Templi e che si è spostato alla stazione ferroviaria e ad alcune abitazioni nei suoi pressi.




Come se fosse stato un film, Ken ha ricordato il vecchio capostazione e la sua famiglia, e poi,
all’improvviso, un bambino, un giovinotto volenteroso che lo aiutava nelle piccole faccende
quotidiane e che, con grande orgoglio, portava del cibo al resto della sua famiglia (erano i tempi
della guerra...).

Sarà stato il caso? Il destino? Il fato? Ognuno può chiamarlo come crede.



Fatto sta che Ken, mentre raccontava i suoi ricordi, è stato raggiunto da un signore in bicicletta, oggi ottantenne, che ha esclamato "Ero io quel bambino!" .

E' stato un momento di forte emozione quando i due si sono riabbracciati dopo tutti questi anni.








Ken ha deciso di non fermare le sue ricerche ed ha annunciato che presto tornerà da noi... e chissà quali altre storie vorrà farci rivivere, storie di momenti della sua gioventù che si intrecciano con quelli di tante persone, oggi un pò più anziane, che vivono proprio accanto a noi.

A few days ago we came across the story of Ken, a British soldier who, during the allied landings,  met his first love, his Rosa at the feet of the majestic temples of Paestum.

Ken was not able to see Rosa again, because she has since passed away.

In his recent stay in Paestum, thanks to a series of circumstances and pieces coming together as if in a puzzle, Ken retraced his steps and memories of a boy came flooding back.

So, thanks to the work and help of some local people, sensitive and by now fond of the romantic elderly man, his memories were transformed into a journey, which started near to the Temples and then moved to the railway station and to some  of the houses nearby.

As if in a film Ken remembered the old station master and his family, and then, suddenly, a child, a young man willing to help him in small daily matters
who with great pride, took food to the rest of his family (it was wartime ...).


It must have been by chance? Destiny? Fate? Everyone can call it as they wish.

The fact is that Ken, as he told his story, was joined by a man on a bicycle, now eighty years old, who exclaimed, "I was that child!" .

It was a moment of great emotion when the two re-embraced after all of these years.

Ken has decided not to stop his research and has announced that he will soon return to us ... and who knows what other stories he wants to us to relive, moments of his youth,  stories that are intertwined with those of so many people, now a little older, living right next to us.

"Love never fails" - Ken e la sua "Rosa" di Paestum

Ken, oggi novantaquatrenne, sembra che sia riuscito nella sua missione: avere notizie della sua amata Rosa.

L'occasione che fece incontrare i protagonisti di questa storia, fu la famosa Operazione "Avalanche" che, nel settembre del 1943, vide Paestum e le coste della Provincia di Salerno, come zone di sbarco.

Tra il giovane soldato inglese, di soli 24 anni e la bella Rosa appena diciottenne, sbocciò l'amore, amore che fu ostacolato sia dalla famiglia della ragazza che dal comandante dell'esercito britannico.

Ken fu rispedito in Inghilterra e non gli fu neanche data la possibilità di parlare con la sua amata.

Rosa, da parte sua, non ebbe notizie e visse nella convinzione che lui si fosse preso solo gioco di lei.

Le lettere di Rosa, che sembrano scritte con le sue lacrime e non con l'inchiostro, trasudano di profondo dolore per quell'abbandono, furono consegnate a Ken dopo molto tempo e gli fu impossibile rintracciarla.

Così si costruì una famiglia con un'altra donna straordinaria.

Perchè racconto questa storia?

La storia è ancora attuale perché Carole, la figlia di Ken, dopo la morte della madre, ha svolto una serie di ricerche e sembra sia riuscita a realizzare il sogno di suo padre: avere notizie della sua Rosa, di quella giovane che è sempre stata nel suo cuore.

"Ho sempre conosciuto la storia perché mio padre ancora ricorda tutti i dettagli di quella parte della sua vita", racconta Carole, "Dopo la morte di mia madre, anche se mi sembrava quasi di tradirla, ho deciso di aiutare mio padre nella sua ricerca, per realizzare il suo sogno. E' davvero una emozione incredibile sentire mio padre, che è in viaggio con me a Paestum, raccontare i dettagli della guerra, dettagli che hanno segnato la sua vita e la storia moderna". 

Storie di amori difficili, di amori ostacolati.

Mi chiedo: chi ha il diritto di decidere quale sia la persona giusta?

Altri tempi, eppure non così lontani.

Allora è proprio vero? Il primo amore non si scorda mai...

Ken, at ninetyfour years old, seems to have succeeded in his mission: to have news of his beloved Rosa.

The occasion that brought together the protagonists of this story, was the famous "Operation Avalanche," which, in September 1943, saw Paestum and the coasts of the Province of Salerno, as the landing areas.

Between the young British soldier, only 24 years old and the beautiful Rosa just eighteen, a love blossomed , a love that was thwarted by the family of the girl and by the commander of the British army.

Ken was sent back to England and he was not even given a chance to speak with his beloved.

Rosa, for her part, had no news, and lived in the belief that he had made fun of her.

Rosa's letters, which seemed to be written with her tears and not with ink, ooze profound sorrow for that desertion, were handed over to Ken after a long time and he was unable to locate her.

So he built himself a family with another remarkable woman.

Why tell this story?

The story is still relevant because Carole, Ken's daughter, after her mother's death, did some research and seems to have been able to fulfill her father's dream: to have news of his Rosa, of the young woman who was always in his heart.

"I've always known the story because my father still remembers all the details of that part of his life," says Carole, "After the death of my mother even though I seemed to betray her, I decided to help my father in his research to achieve his dream. It's 'really an incredible emotion to hear my father, who is travelling with me in Paestum, telling me details of the war, details that have marked his life and modern history. "

I wonder who has the right to decide who is the right person? 

Another era, yet not so far away. 

So is it really true? First love is never forgotten ...
